Power of Professional Learning Teams

Activities and reflections on a school’s understanding of what it means to be an effective leader. Aim is to explore the role of the Professional Learning Team and how an effective team supports learning and teaching.

Background

Amanda Smith of St Catherine of Siena, Melton talks about one of the school’s professional learning teams – The Literacy Professional Learning Team. She talks about the core purpose of the team and how this relates to the school vision.

Kellie the former Literacy Co-ordinator, explains that PLTs are working in the school because teachers discuss and share understandings.

This creates a climate where all teachers share the responsibility for all students’ progress. They have a strong emphasis on ‘leadership for learning’ and have put in place structures to ensure that this early work has been embedded and sustained beyond the life of their action research project.
